@billwrql525 Baofeng UV-5G Plus - Spot on - wish I'd seen this a few days ago. Answers many questionns and, so that i don't forget, I've booked marked it. Now, I'm going to throttle my enthusiasm and take small steps to start out. Oh, and return the book I bought on Amazon. Thanks again for the pointer.
